Can you borrow the money to buy an e-bike?

An e-bike or “speed pedelec” can be a more sustainable transport choice than a car. However, they are much more expensive than ordinary bicycles. If you want to buy one but don’t want to – or can’t – pay for it in full at the time of purchase, you can take out a repayment loan.

Most banks offer discounted loans in order to encourage their customers to travel in a more sustainable way. These loans can be used to buy not just e-bikes, but also electric scooters, electric unicycles, hoverboards and electric skateboards. You repay the amount borrowed in fixed monthly instalments. Many banks, including BNP Paribas Fortis, show you how much those instalments will be using an online calculator.

With BNP Paribas Fortis, you can also borrow up to 110% of the vehicle’s cost, giving you the money to buy accessories such as a helmet or a sturdy lock.
