Young Belgian selected "Innovator of the year"

      

The first edition of Innovators Under 35 in Belgium, the top recognition for young tech pioneers worldwide, welcomes the top seven young brilliant minds to the global community curated by MIT Technology Review.

 

● Innovators Under 35 recognizes seven young, national innovators for their ground-breaking projects in environmental engineering, biotechnology, telecommunications and Computer and Electronics hardware.

Yves Van Ingelgem (33) was recognized as Innovator of the Year in Belgium for his technology to make wind turbines more efficient.

Arne Pauwels (28) won a special mention as Social Innovator mention for his portable, solar-powered food conservation system.

● Innovators Under 35 Belgium – this first edition was attended by 300 guests in Brussels.

MIT Technology Review selects the Innovator of the year and the Social Innovator in Belgium. The first generation of Innovators Under 35 Belgium combines technology, innovation and creativity to provide answers to the challenges of today. Innovators Under 35 Belgium by MIT Technology Review, with the support of BNP Paribas Fortis, L’Atelier BNP Paribas and Startup Europe discovers and connects the brightest and most innovative seven young Belgian talents working on new solutions in education, medicine and energy.

From the environmental impact of the building sector to food security to a new approach to health care, the Innovators Under 35 Belgium are solving big social problems. They presented their amazing work at the Innovators Under 35 event which took place yesterday at Co.Station BXL, organized with the support of BNP Paribas Fortis and L’Atelier BNP Paribas. Among the seven winners, two received an additional recognition: Yves Van Ingelgem (33) was named Innovator of the Year, for the development of a new corrosion sensor that makes coastal wind turbines more cost efficient, increasing the impact of this energy source; and Arne Pauwels (28), who was selected as Social Innovator, for his new food conservation system that helps to foster food security by helping local farmers to maximize their sales..

The Innovators Under 35 were accompanied on stage by some of the most prominent experts on technology, such as Kathleen Kennedy, President of MIT Technology Review; Bruno Wattembergh, COO of Impulse Brussels and Robin Wauters, Founding Editor of Tech.Eu. Julie de Pimodan and Xavier Duportet, recently announced Innovators Under 35 in France, welcomed the new Belgian Innovators to this global community.

Innovators Under 35 is the top recognition bestowed by MIT Technology Review, and represents a global community of the leaders of tomorrow’s technological breakthroughs. Spanish, French, German, Polish, Italian, and now Belgian Innovators form the European community are part of this exclusive group of innovators which is growing each year.

Innovators Under 35 in Europe.

For over ten years the global edition has selected the utmost talented, young innovators from around the world. Some of the winners from previous editions, like Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Sergey Brin (Google) or Daniel Ek (Spotify), are now recognized worldwide. In an effort to strengthen our global community, this year MIT Technology Review launched the European regional project with the collaboration of BNP Paribas and L’Atelier BNP Paribas.

The Innovators Under 35 of all 6 European editions (France, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Germany and Spain) will meet at the end of the year at the European Summit, which will entail two days of discussion and activities centered around innovation and entrepreneurship. The Innovators will share ideas, find new solutions for the challenges of today’s Europe and create ways of impacting their regions and the world.
